The Independent Electricity System Operator's annual release of supply, demand and price data highlights three trends that helped shape the management of Ontario's power system in 2011: increasing production from renewable resources, reduced dependence on coal-fired units, and a more active role for consumers in managing their consumption.

IESO Forecasts Adequate Supply Over the Next 18 Months

Over the next 18 months Ontario will continue to have an adequate supply of electricity to meet consumers' needs, confirms the IESO in its most recent 18-month outlook report. Released today, the report also makes recommendations to ensure the reliability of the electricity system can continue to be maintained in the future.

The period from September 2011 to February 2013 poses no new reliability or adequacy concerns for Ontario's power system, said the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) in its latest 18-Month Outlook.

The period from June 2011 to November 2012 poses no new reliability or adequacy concerns for Ontario's power system, said the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) in its latest 18-Month Outlook. More than 2,500 megawatts (MW) of new and refurbished generation is expected to be connected to Ontario's bulk power system over the next 18 months.
