Participant Registration
If you wish to participate in the IESO-administered markets and/or programs, or have a physical facility that causes or permits electricity to be conveyed into, through or out of the IESO-controlled grid you, must be authorized as a participant.
How to Begin
Please contact the IESO at market.entry@ieso.ca for further assistance. You will be assigned a project manager who will provide assistance to you in completing and submitting the applicable forms and/or tasks listed below:
- Submit the Application for Authorization to Participate Form 1016 and include the application fee ($1000) plus applicable taxes.
- Submit the Market Participant Contacts Form 1238.
- Submit two signed originals of the Participation Agreement.
- You must apply for an Ontario Energy Board (OEB) licence
- If you plan to participate in the real-time IESO-administered markets, you must provide collateral called ‘prudential support’ to cover funds that might be owed to the market if your company were unable to make a payment. See the Guide to Prudentials and chapter 2 of the market rules to learn more about prudential support.
The IESO has a list of acceptable bond rating agencies and a list of financial institutions eligible to provide prudential information in support of your prudential requirements.
- You must obtain a Canadian bank account with a branch in Ontario.
- You must provide Certificate of Status (Canadian based companies) or Articles of Incorporation (US based companies).
- Gain secure access to IESO Information Systems. You will need to register all individuals within your organization who will be interacting with the IESO and complete the following forms:
