Reliability

Ontario Reliability Outlook Report Through this Outlook, the IESO reports on the progress of the inter-related generation, transmission, and demand-management projects underway to meet future reliability requirements.

As Reliability Co-ordinator and Balancing and Planning Authority for Ontario, the IESO is committed to working closely with market participants as well as national and international organizations to improve electricity reliability throughout North America. It does this by advocating stronger, more effective, enforceable and mandatory reliability standards, working with market participants to monitor and enforce current reliability standards, and developing its own standards to better address reliability concerns.

Currently in Ontario, there are a growing number of generation, transmission and conservation and demand management (CDM) projects underway to meet future needs. The IESO is responsible for maintaining reliability throughout this transition, working with system planners, forecasting demand and supply, and reporting on the progress of projects that impact the power grid.

In addition, the IESO supports outage planning with regular assessments of possible outage windows based on short-term forecasts of system adequacy.
